Breaking News: Salesforce Acquire Zoomin for $450M

By Thomas Morgan

Salesforce’s strong year of acquisitions continues, as they announced yesterday that they have acquired Israeli-based data management provider Zoomin for $450M. This is Salesforce’s second major acquisition in Israel this month, following the purchase of Own for approximately $1.9B less than three weeks ago.

The acquisition, predicted to close in the fourth quarter of Salesforce’s 2025 fiscal year, is set to boost the capabilities of the company’s new Agentforce tool using Zoomin’s data management expertise.

What Is Zoomin?

Founded in 2016 by Gal Oron, Hannah Saltzman, and Joe Gelb, Zoomin specializes in taking unstructured data – such as user manuals, product documentation, or customer support queries – and processing it into a more structured form that AI models can use.

Zoomin works with large-scale companies such as Dell Technologies and Mastercard to help them break down the plethora of unstructured data in their organizations and effectively feed it to AI models, which can then deliver more accurate responses to business employees.

The relationship between Salesforce and Zoomin started in 2018, with an initial investment made by Salesforce Ventures. The partnership between the two companies has since strengthened, even collaborating earlier this year to launch a joint product called Unified Knowledge

“As organizations are accelerating their enterprise AI transformation, our joint mission is to support them (Salesforce) and make sure AI doesn’t hit the data wall.” Gal Oron, CEO, Zoomin

Salesforce is now committed to utilizing Zoomin natively to improve their AI capabilities and gain a deeper understanding of their customers, as stated by Gal Oron, Zoomin’s CEO.

How Zoomin Helps Salesforce’s AI Strategy

With the acquisition of Zoomin, Salesforce is taking another step in its efforts to gain an edge over competitors such as Microsoft in the AI market. During a recent earnings call, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff highlighted the need for AI agents to be user-friendly and effective, expressing concerns regarding the complexities of Microsoft Copilots:

“So many customers are so disappointed in what they bought from Microsoft and copilots because they aren’t getting the accuracy and responses they want” Marc Benioff, CEO, Salesforce

Benioff believes Agentforce AI agents can offer a simpler and more accurate alternative to Microsoft Copilot, thanks to Zoomin. Once Zoomin’s technology is fully integrated, customers can expect significant improvements in customer service automation, sales forecasting, and marketing strategies. By leveraging unstructured data quickly and efficiently, Agentforce will be capable of delivering next-level insights and actions, marking a new era in AI-driven solutions.

Salesforce has said that Zoomin will be first introduced in Data Cloud and Service Cloud platforms, with ambitions to expand to all of its cloud platforms in the future.

Summary

Benioff has shared his personal excitement for Agentforce a lot in recent weeks, and it’s clear to see why – Salesforce has a keen ambition to strengthen this tool to become the most powerful AI agent in the market, and this acquisition puts them in a great position to do just that.
