Salesforce Flow Builder is the go-to automation tool on the Salesforce platform, allowing you to build complex business processes using clicks, not code. However, the question remains – how do you learn Salesforce Flow?
In this article, I go over my top 10 Trailhead badges to learn the key concepts and fundamentals of Salesforce Flow Builder. So, let’s get started!
1. Flow Builder Basics
The name itself suggests that this badge is ideal for getting started with Salesforce Flow Builder, as it covers all of the basics.
In this module, you will cover:
Get started with automation
Go with the Flow
Meet Flow Builder
Learn about Flow variables
2. Data and Actions in Flows
A vitally important part of Flow Builder – this badge builds on the basics to cover variables and data elements. Variables and data elements are important parts of Flow Builder as they allow you to get and manipulate data within your flow.
In this module, you will cover:
Work with Salesforce records in Flow
Combine variables and data elements
Communicate using the action element
Make the most of global variables and actions
3. Flow Builder Logic
This badge helps you to use logic and formulas to control the paths and variables in a flow. You’ll cover utilizing multiple paths in Flow, setting and changing variable values, calculating values in variables and formulas, and how to run a flow within a flow.
To earn this badge, it is expected that you possess knowledge in creating flows involving variables, inputs, and data elements (like Get Records).

4. Record-Triggered Flows

This module is intended for intermediate-level Salesforce Admins who have a good understanding of fundamental Salesforce customization features and have gained some proficiency in working with basic flows.

To earn this badge, you are expected to create a flow utilizing variables, inputs, and data elements – including features like Get Records.

7. Step-by-Step Flow Testing
In this badge, you’ll learn how to test your flows with a step-by-step guide – taking you through how to identify test cases for a flow, explaining what a flow interview is, and testing a flow from Flow Builder. Testing allows you to refine the behavior of the flow, detect and resolve any issues or errors, and ensure that your users have a positive and smooth experience.
Simply put – in this module, you will makesure your flow works!
8. Flow Troubleshooting
In this badge, you’ll learn how to diagnose and fix common Flow issues. The Flow Troubleshooting badge requires a specific type of developer edition org, which you can do here. You’ll cover fixing access issues in a flow and fixing specific issues caused by a null value in your flow.
In this module, you will cover:
Review Flow terminology and sign up for a special org

9. Use External Services With a Flow
In this badge, you’ll learn how to build a flow that uses external services. This project-based badge will cover registering an external service, accessing external business actions, and creating a flow using external services actions.

10. Ultimate Salesforce Flow Foundation Course
Not a Trailhead badge, but this course – by Tim Combridge – covers everything you need to know to start building flows with Flow Builder. It includes written guides and videos to support your learning style, designing and mapping out your flows, best practices and limitations, and testing and debugging your flows.
From getting started with Flow Builder to testing and debugging your flows, these badges should help you to learn the basics of Flow Builder and understand what type of flow to use and when. With so many resources out there for learning Flow, this list will only grow as the tool gets even better!
