With Salesforce Inspector Reloaded taking the world of Salesforce Chrome Extensions by storm over the past year, it should come as no surprise that new functionality will keep being developed to further enhance the overall experience for all Salesforce professionals using this new version.
In this post, we will explore the newest features available in the beta version – which you can install here – as a preview of what’s to come in the main version…
Version 1.25
Following the success of the REST Explore feature in the previous version, Thomas Prouvot and the Salesforce Inspector Reloaded collaborators have already embarked upon delivering the features promised in their roadmap.
In this version, users will be able to quickly reach the new Object Access page launched by Salesforce in Winter ‘25. They can do this by clicking the access link which will appear when searching for an object in the pop-up. Choose to enable Inspector Reloaded within Experience Builder to enjoy the autocomplete feature and view response time on the REST Explore page.
Enhancements have also been added to the options pages, allowing users not only to choose a favicon for each org but to also apply a color to a sandbox or even production banner. Additionally, in the Data Export settings, users can now specify the number of queries that can be saved in the history or set the maximum limit for saved queries.
Additionally, we will dive deeper into three major new features available in this release: Event Monitor, Field Creator (Beta), and the option to export or import the Salesforce Inspector Reloaded configuration.
1. Event Monitor
This long-awaited feature can be accessed by clicking on the Event Monitor button available on the pop-up or on the Custom Platform Events Object tab. It allows users to review Salesforce Platform Events in real-time, directly from their browser, making event-based implementations much easier to quickly monitor. Event Monitor is a contribution from Antoine, the person behind the Enable Log button, designed to make it easy for any Salesforce professional to quickly enable Debug Logs.
“As an expert in Salesforce Order Management, it’s essential for me to regularly verify that platform events are triggered correctly and that their content is accurate. The Event Monitor feature in Inspector Reloaded is an indispensable tool that significantly streamlines this process in my daily work.“
– Antoine Leleu
The beauty of Event Monitor is that it empowers users to subscribe to standard or custom platform events and receive real-time updates or replay past events without additional tools, directly from the browser via the CometD library. The JSON result can easily be copied for further investigation if needed.
When replaying events, especially when a large payload is involved, make sure to check the environment to prevent performance issues. Antoine has also included a pop-up warning message when you try to replay all events in a production environment and maybe didn’t mean to do so!
2. Field Creator (Beta)
A significant enhancement for Salesforce Admins (and whoever has to create multiple fields as part of an implementation) has to be the new Field Creator (Beta) button. This is a fully-fledged field creation tool, inconspicuously hidden behind a new button on the Inspector Reloaded panel. Similar to Event Monitor, this mechanism is a community contribution, and we have Santiago Parris to thank and share feedback with during this beta version.
“I’m passionate about creating tools that streamline workflows for both admins and developers. By automating and simplifying repetitive tasks, we can focus more on solving complex problems and delivering value to users.“
– Santiago Parris
Within the Field Creator page, you can directly select the standard or custom object of your choice and start creating the fields. One big advantage is seeing the fields, their names, and types on the same page without having to remember how you called them or checking them in a table. When it comes to field types, most of them are available for selection; however, in this iteration, master-detail, lookup, and others are not yet included.
There is no actual limit to how many lines you can add on this page, and while writing the label, the API Name will automatically default to PascalCase. However, if you already have a list of your fields, you don’t even have to complete the rows, as you can simply import the CSV using the dedicated button.
The following two buttons available for each row include the field-specific options (this is where you will find the Description and Help Text) and the ability to assign field permissions in either permission sets or profiles. Additionally, you don’t have to manually assign permissions for each field – if they should be the same across the entire list, you can simply click on “Apply to all Fields”.
If mandatory attributes or permissions are incorrect or missing, Santiago has also included a handy error message to prevent any deployment failures. Once the errors are resolved, you simply need to click “Deploy Fields” once again and wait for the new items to be deployed to your org (which, we hope, is a Sandbox or Developer edition, as new fields should not be directly created in Production).
3. Export Configuration
If you have been using the main Inspector Reloaded version until now and are looking forward to switching to the beta one to enjoy the new features faster, rest assured that you can take your configuration with you. Within the Inspector Reloaded options page, now you have the possibility to either export or import configurations so that you won’t have to worry about customizing the extension to your liking every time you need to.
Even more so, as some options are not yet available to configure through the UI, exporting and editing JSON items – such as REST Templates and custom links – becomes much easier to make your own and then simply import to reflect the changes.
Starting with the upcoming release, the extension will be deployed by following a partial rollout, meaning that some users might want to uninstall/install the extension to benefit from the latest updates. With the export configuration option, they won’t have to worry about losing any of their settings.
Summary
All in all, regardless of the tasks you are conducting in Salesforce, chances are that there is at least one feature within Inspector Reloaded that can rapidly optimize your day-to-day. Be it that you would like to see all record fields, query your database, or enjoy one of the new features such as the real-time Event Monitor page, there is something for all roles.
