Infographic: Mapping and Routing Apps for Salesforce
By Patrick Cronan
Finding the right mapping or routing app within the Salesforce ecosystem can feel like trying to boil the ocean. When you search for ‘mapping’ or ‘routing’ on the Salesforce AppExchange, you get around 300 different apps that fall into five categories.
While this is a lot to sift through, it’s powerful that the Salesforce ecosystem has different apps to solve the different mapping and routing use cases that businesses encounter. This post will categorize and evaluate the mapping and routing apps that are available for Salesforce users, with the goal of helping Salesforce Admins find the app that they are looking for.
Here is a simple breakdown of how the mapping and routing apps on Salesforce are categorized:
The Mapping and Routing Apps on Salesforce
Each category of mapping and routing apps provides a different solution for a different end user in Salesforce. Here’s a clear breakdown of what each category does and who uses it:
App Category | Mapping and Routing Need |
---|---|
GeoAnalytics / Territory Balancing and Design | Sales operations teams need to build fair and balanced territories for sales teams. Also, marketing, operations, sales, and strategy teams need to do map-based data analysis and make data-based decisions that involve where things are located. |
Mapping and Routing for Field Reps | Field sales or field service reps need to map their data, optimize their routes, and gather information from the field on a mobile device. |
Org Charts and Account Mapping | Sales reps need to build and collaborate with other team members or partners on an org chart at a prospect company. |
Fleet Management, TMS, and Dispatch | Trucking, fleet managers, and dispatchers want to make more efficient decisions, improve deliveries, and manage their fleet. |
Lead Routing and Assignment | Sales management and operations teams need to assign leads, cases, or work orders to the appropriate team members or partners. |
Here is a summary of the mapping and routing apps available on Salesforce in each category, who they are designed for, and what they do:

How to Evaluate Mapping and Routing Apps on Salesforce
There are many review platforms where you can read what the actual users of these different apps have said about their experiences, including the Salesforce AppExchange, G2, Capterra, the Apple App Store, the Google Play Store, and Google Reviews. For mobile apps, it is useful to read the reviews on the mobile platforms that your company will use the app on.
One factor to keep in mind during an evaluation is that some apps are native, or built on top of the Salesforce Platform. Other apps are non-native, or built on another cloud such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Amazon’s Web Services (AWS), or Microsoft’s cloud (Azure).
Because native apps are already built on the Salesforce Platform, they have an advantage of not needing to have a connector put in place to share data in real time. However, many of the top applications are not built on Salesforce Platform because often the top applications don’t exclusively connect to Salesforce, but integrate with other CRMs as well.
In either case, native or non-native, it’s important to test all apps and their connectors on your specific Salesforce configuration before making a purchase because Salesforce is so customizable that not all apps can cope well with all possible configurations.
Summary
While finding the right mapping or routing app within the Salesforce ecosystem can be complex, hopefully this guide and infographic has helped your search. There are a lot of different apps that solve different use cases, but by figuring out your business needs you can narrow it down to a certain category.
