MuleSoft Certifications Now Merged With Salesforce Certs: All Details Here

By Mariel Domingo

As of May 6, 2024, MuleSoft Certifications were formally moved to the Salesforce Certification program, and Webassessor is now used to manage them. This update, which enables professionals to maintain both their Salesforce and MuleSoft credentials within the same platform, is part of a larger attempt to simplify the certification process.

This article explores the recent addition of MuleSoft certifications to Salesforce’s certification program and how they can now be managed via Trailhead. For people who work in both the Salesforce and MuleSoft ecosystems, this is a significant shift. The update aims to improve the convenience of maintaining and managing your certifications (as Salesforce acquired MuleSoft after all). We’ll dive into what this change means for current and existing certification holders, the dates that guided the transition, as well as the new opportunities (and latest certs!) that this unified platform offers.

What is MuleSoft?

MuleSoft is a leading integration platform that enables organizations to connect their applications, data, and devices seamlessly. This is known as an Integration Platform as a Service (iPaaS), integrating cloud applications with each other, even with on-premise or legacy applications. It was acquired by Salesforce in 2018 and powers the integration layer of the Salesforce ecosystem; it’s perfect for allowing businesses to unify their systems.

These days, the demand for connected experiences and digital transformation only grows. More and more businesses with on-premise solutions transition to the cloud, and so MuleSoft expertise has become highly valuable in the job market.

Mulesoft Certifications and Training

MuleSoft certifications validate the ability to design, build, and manage integrations using MuleSoft’s own Anypoint Platform. Before transitioning to Trailhead, these certifications were managed through the MuleSoft Training portal. This was dedicated exclusively to MuleSoft’s suite of tools and technologies, offering a wide range of certifications that validated expertise in using the Anypoint Platform.

The system operated independently from Salesforce’s broader certification ecosystem, and while functional, it seems that requiring separate accounts and processes for exam registration, tracking, and maintenance could be cumbersome. Integration with Trailhead is an improvement that promotes a better user experience via a unified certification process.

The Transition Timeline

The following dates marked the transition period:

  • April 19, 2024: The final date to purchase MuleSoft exams through the MuleSoft Training platform.
  • April 26, 2024: The deadline for rescheduling any existing exam registrations.
  • May 6, 2024: The official date for scheduling all future MuleSoft exams through Webassessor.

What Does This Mean for Current Mulesoft Certification Holders?

The MuleSoft credentials for current certification holders who already have Webassessor accounts should have been automatically reflected in their Trailblazer profile. A confirmation email would have been sent to let them know the migration went well.

By April 2024, Webassessor accounts (for those without any) should have been created on their behalf. A welcome email and login access should have been sent to these people as well.

What About Certification Maintenance?

MuleSoft certification holders with pending maintenance as of January 1, 2024 are not required to complete any additional maintenance activities under the old system/portal. It is anticipated that MuleSoft certification holders will have plenty of time to become acquainted with the new procedure and utilize Trailhead for credential maintenance before the requirements for maintaining certifications through the platform are revealed in 2025.

New Certifications on Trailhead

In addition to the migration, certifications such as the MuleSoft Certified Catalyst Specialist and MuleSoft Certified Hyperautomation Specialist have also been integrated into Trailhead. These certifications aren’t entirely new but were previously part of the legacy MuleSoft program and were initially released in late 2022 and early 2023 respectively.

The Catalyst certification in particular is not product-focused, but rather a methodology. This makes it especially relevant for partners and consultants. The exam measures the candidate’s familiarity with the Catalyst methodology, a collection of best practices for developing and implementing integration projects developed by MuleSoft.

The Hyperautomation Specialist certification, on the other hand, is designed for professionals who aim to automate their tasks and validates whether you are capable of developing hyper-automation solutions using both Salesforce and MuleSoft Products. This means acing the exam will require you to have knowledge on both platforms.

Summary

The integration of MuleSoft certifications into Trailhead is a significant advancement towards a more cohesive and unified credentialing process. It shows that Salesforce really does prioritize its learning ecosystem.

This transition means more ease and convenience when managing certifications and staying current with maintenance. By unifying these, Salesforce empowers professionals to harness the full potential of both platforms.
